Thematic Identity
I found the themes shooting assignment to be difficult at times. The themes required were those which I did not fully relate to, so I often had trouble thinking of my own take on the themes. Specifically, I had difficulty with dangerous, abandoned, and terrifying. However, the themes of courage, truth, hope, wisdom, love, memories, and happiness were particularly easy for me. My favorite shots were love, truth, and memories, because they were very personal and meaningful to me. For love, I took a picture of the wooden cross my uncle made for me. My faith is a big part of my life, so the cross represents an act of true love. For truth, I took a picture of my Bible open to the gospel of John. This is one of my favorite books of the Bible to study because of its truth. For memories, I took a picture of a bunch of cards I have saved. I love saving cards from birthdays, dance competitions, and other events because I enjoy being able to look back and reread the notes I have been given. I really love the bright colors in this picture, and the cards have a very special meaning to me. The end result of layering turned out well; however, I personally do not like it as well as my separate portrait. I prefer more traditional style photos, so I do not like the layering of the themes underneath the portrait. The final result does a good job of abstractly representing my identity with the majority of the underlying photos pulling from my faith. Also, the photos involving dance, journaling, cards, and drawings show what I truly enjoy doing. The portrait portion of the photo also represents my identity because I am smiling, which I love to do!
